Daniel Acker Scholars Program

The Daniel Acker Scholars Program is a unique, individualized learning community of academically talented and diverse students who have a strong commitment to social justice, leadership and community service. Here, students find a robust culture of acceptance and inclusion, where scholars are encouraged to embrace all aspects of their social identities on the path to becoming well-rounded individuals.

Acker Scholars are selected to participate in the program at their point of admission to UB, and they receive opportunities and the support needed to maximize their college experience, from enrollment to graduation and beyond.

To participate in the UB Daniel Acker Scholar Program, candidates are required to be U.S. citizens or have permanent resident status and demonstrate how they have overcome a disadvantage or other impediment to success in higher education. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to contributing to the diversity of the student body by facilitating and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in their academic programs and campus activities. Even though financial need is not a requirement for program eligibility, applicants may utilize economic disadvantage as a basis for eligibility. Preference will be given to candidates who are from a low-income background (e.g., Pell-eligible as undergraduates), are first-generation college students (students whose parents have not earned a bachelor's degree), have overcome adversity, are AmeriCorps alumni, or are veterans.

Our Daniel Acker scholars are committed to and passionate about their education, and demonstrate the potential to be future leaders and critical thinkers in our community, region, state, country and world.

The selection process for the Daniel Acker Scholars Program is competitive and you will be notified by the Admissions Office if you are selected to participate.
