Yotam Ophir Consulted about Meta Fact-Checking Changes
Yotam Ophir, Associate Professor in Communication and head of the , has recently been consulted by journalists about announced changes to Meta/Facebook content moderation and fact-checking. Ophir connects the changes to those previously made at Twitter:
“Mark Zuckerberg argues that his role model for this change is Elon Musk and what he did on Twitter,” says Yotam Ophir, a ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ of Buffalo communications professor who studies misinformation. “So we can look at Twitter for answers, right? And if we do, we see chaos.”
“This seems like a really dangerous and unfortunate attempt by Zuckerberg and Meta to prepare for a second Trump administration, avoid conflicts with Donald Trump and his supporters,” and to avoid fines from regulators, Ophir said.”
