Andrew Crooks.

Dr. Crooks is a Professor in the department of Geography and RENEW Faculty. His research interests include Geographical Information Science, Geocomputation, Agent-based modeling, Social Network Analysis, Urban Geography, and Computational Social Science.

Prior to joining the RENEW Institute and the Department of Geography at the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ of Buffalo as a Professor, Dr Andrew Crooks was an Associate Professor of Computational Social Science at George Mason ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½. Dr. Crooks received his PhD in Geography from the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA), ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ College London in 2007. His education also includes a Master’s of Science in Geographical Information Science (GIS) and a Bachelor’s of Science in Geology and Physical Geography both from the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ of Edinburgh.

His research focuses on exploring and understanding the natural and socio-economic environments specifically urban areas using GIS, spatial analysis, social network analysis and agent-based modeling methodologies. To date, Dr. Crooks has been PI and Co-PI on over $5,000,000 worth of external grants from a variety of funding agencies including the National Science Foundation (NSF) and Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

Currently Dr. Crooks is a co-editor of the journal “Environment and Planning B: Urban Analytics and City Science” and has recently published a book entitled "Agent-Based Modelling and Geographical Information Systems: A Practical Primer."
