Medical students, educators and researchers from Western New York and across the U.S. will gather to meet with health care providers, activists and community members to discuss solutions to the gun violence epidemic.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Medical students, educators and researchers from Western New York and across the U.S. will gather at the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ this weekend to meet with health care providers, activists and community members to discuss solutions to the gun violence epidemic.

When and where: Friday, June 6, through Sunday, June 8, at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at UB, 955 Main St., Buffalo NY. The full conference schedule, speaker bios, etc. is .

Best time for media: Saturday, June 7, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. during the Community Day portion of the conference, which is free and open to the public.

From 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., Zeneta Everhart, Masten District Councilmember and mother of Zaire Goodman, who was severely injured in the 5/14/22 mass shooting, will give a keynote talk.

From 3:45 to 5:45 p.m., attendees will be involved in:

·       Painting pavers for the Remembrance Garden at St. John’s Lodge.

·       Participating in an open mic opportunity to share poems, songs, essays or stories on the topic of gun violence.

·       Connecting with community organizations at a tabling fair.

·       Creating luminaries in memory of those lost to gun violence.

·       Attending a presentation on “Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPO): A new public health tool to prevent gun violence in New York State​” by Gale R. Burstein, MD, commissioner, Erie County Department of Health, and professor of pediatrics, Jacobs School, and Ryan Belka, JD, assistant attorney general.
