2018-2019 Colloquium Schedule

Kaneisha Wheelock (with Dr. Lisa Butler, on right), graduating 2017 MSW VMF Focus student, was awarded a competitive Interprofessional Fellowship in Substance Addiction Treatment at the Seattle Division of the Addictions Treatment Center within the VA Puget Sound Health Care System.

A  in January 2016 highlights our project's important research. 

In the summer of 2015, Joining Forces-UB team members presented at Sigmund Freud 蜜桃传媒 as part of the XXXIVth International Congress on Law and Mental Health in Vienna, Austria.

Conference presentations included:

• Joining forces: Developing a curriculum to train social work and nursing students to work with Veterans and military families (Lisa Butler, PhD, PI)
• We don’t complain about the little things:” Focus group explorations of the views of Veterans and military family members on healthcare needs and gaps. (Brad Linn, PhD student)
• Avoiding re-traumatization:  Utilizing a trauma-informed framework with Veterans and military family members (Katie McClain-Meeder, MSW)
• Training rescued pets: For the Dog Tags Niagara program it’s a two way street (Tom Nochajski, PhD, Project Collaborator)

• In the summer of 2014 we had the opportunity to talk with Vantage Point radio about the project.

• A UB  in July 2014 highlighted the Joining Forces-UB project and website launch.

• The course Introduction to Issues in Veteran and Military Family Care was launched in the Spring of 2014 and has been taught each spring semester thereafter. Students and instructors alike have been very enthusiastic about the experience. 
  

• Joining Forces–UB was highlighted in the Fall 2013 Mosaics magazine (the project was then called the UB Partnership for Excellence in Veteran Care).  In February 2014, the article was published in the UB Reporter!

• The project was also featured in the December issue of WNY Professional Nurses’ Association, District 1.
