Zoom is an easy-to-use video communication platform that includes video conferencing, recording, phone, chat and screen sharing.

Using Jabber, you can place, receive and manage telephone calls using your Internet-connected computer and a headset, or open a text window to chat with colleagues who are also using Jabber.

• Set up the virtual interview technology prior to the interview.
• Communicate the call information to the applicant.
• Test the program before the interview.
• Be prepared to screen share with the candidate if the need arises.
• Ensure a break is built in when the interview is expected to last more than 1 hour.
• Assign a moderator to assist in troubleshooting should the need arise during the interview.

The search committee should be prepared to run the interview as if it was in-person.  Find tools for search committee members in the Recruitment Toolkit.

In addition to normal recruitment procedures, make these extra considerations when performing virtual interviews:

• Arrive early to the web meeting; the candidate may also arrive early.
• The designated moderator should be prepared to introduce the candidate to each person the candidate will be meeting.
• Explain how the "mute" feature will be utilitized to block out background noise.
• The designated moderator needs to be at each virutal meeting 10 minutes before the conclusion of the meeting in case the meeting ends early or to expedite the meeting should it seem like it will go longer.

• Designate time for the tour
• Present classrooms, offices and laboratory space
• Show unique features within your school and campus location
• Designate time and prepare for the candidate to ask questions
