BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Redford B. Williams, M.D., internationally known for his work on anger, hostility, coronary-prone behaviors and life-skills training, will deliver a Harrington Lecture at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, at the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ Inn and Conference Center, 2401 N. Forest Road, Amherst.
The topic of Williams' lecture, sponsored by the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ School of Medicine and Biomedical Science, will be "The Mind-Body Connection in Cardiac Health." It will culminate a forum on mind/behavior factors and cardiovascular health featuring nationally known researchers.
Director of the Behavioral Medicine Research Center at Duke ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ Medical Center, Williams is board chairman of Life Skills, Inc. Other presenters and their topics are:
- William L. Lovallo, Ph.D., director of the behavioral sciences laboratories in the VA Medical Center and professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, how stress programs the brain.
- Virginia P. Williams, Ph.D., co-author of "Anger Kills: Seventeen Strategies for Controlling the Hostility That Can Harm Your Health," life skills for prevention and rehabilitation of heart disease
- Karen Allen, Ph.D., UB research scientist in the Department of Medicine, and Lawrence Golden, M.D., UB clinical professor of medicine and a cardiologist, the role of music in ambulatory eye surgery
- Paresh Dandona, M.D., UB chief of endocrinology and professor of medicine, and Golden, psychosocial stress and glucose homeostasis
- Joseph Izzo, Jr., M.D., UB professor of medicine and chair of the Department of Medicine at Millard Fillmore Hospital, implications of blood-pressure variability
- Bong Hee Sung, Ph.D., UB research associate professor and director of the Cardiovascular Reactivity Laboratory at Millard Fillmore Hospital, cardiovascular reactivity to stress in at-risk populations
