, professor of and chief of the , was honored by the Amherst Senior Citizens Foundation (ASCF) with its Senior Leadership Award.
The award recognizes an individual or organization that has demonstrated outstanding leadership by promoting and developing activities that provide a favorable climate for seniors within the community.
Director of UB’s Center for Successful Aging
Troen is an expert in geriatrics and gerontology with a background in molecular biology and biochemistry.
He helped found and is director of , an interdisciplinary center that seeks to conduct community-responsive research among UB faculty and its community partners to solve challenges facing older adults. The center recently partnered with the city of Buffalo to research, develop and deploy solutions to the challenges facing older adults.
Oversees Geriatric and Palliative Fellowships
Troen studies the biology of aging, frailty, osteoporosis and vitamin D. As chief of geriatrics and palliative medicine, he works with faculty to oversee and fellowships, as well as training for and focused on geriatrics, palliative care and end-of-life care and communication.
Troen is a physician-investigator with the VA Western New York Healthcare System and director of geriatrics services at Erie County Medical Center. He is also the co-director of and an investigator with the SUNY Network Aging Partnership, which studies frailty and enhancing lifespan.
Troen was honored at the ASCF’s 26th anniversary celebration that took place Oct. 20 at Transit Valley Country Club in East Amherst, New York. Sponsored by BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York, the annual event recognizes those who have made a significant contribution of their time and talents to positively affect the lives of local seniors.
